How To Judge Reclaimed Rubber Products Quality?

Reclaimed rubber, a resource from waste rubber recycling, is accepted and favored by more and more rubber product manufacturers. The reclaim rubber product has the advantages of low price, good performance, oil resistance, heat resistance, acid and alkali resistance, aging resistance, good plasticity, fast vulcanization speed, and labor and electricity saving. So, what are the main testing parameters for reclaim rubber products? How to judge the quality of reclaimed rubber products?

Strictly speaking, there are many testing parameters to judge its quality, including mechanical performance test, aging test, corrosion resistance testing, combustion performance test, pulse test, electrical conductivity test, water tightness test, air tightness test, ash content, water content, tensile strength, elongation at break, curing curve, mooney viscosity, thermal stability, and so on. However, in general, people choose several important parameters to test.

1, Water content: when water content exceeds the limit, the product is prone to blister during the curing process, resulting in defective products. Water content also has some influences on the dispersion and uniformity of rubber compounds during mixing process, because it is easy to make the powder compound agglomerate.

2, Ash: ash mainly refers to inorganic filler and metal impurities in reclaimed rubber. The higher the ash content, the less organic matter such as rubber hydrocarbon, the poor quality of recycled rubber, otherwise the opposite.

3, Acetone exact substances are the materials in rubber that can dissolve in acetone. If this content is too high, it is easy to cause the roll sticky during rubber refining, leading to difficult operation. Meanwhile, it may bring pollution to some rubber products.

4, The tensile strength of reclaim rubber is the maximum tensile stress that the sample bears before fracture. Different rubber products have different requirements for tensile strength. So, it is important to choose most appropriate tensile strength but not biggest or smallest tensile strength.

5. The elongation at break is most related to the rubber contents in waste materials.

6, Mooney viscosity: Mooney viscosity is an indicator to measure the average molecular weight and plasticity of rubber. If the Mooney viscosity is too high, it is not easy to process; If Mooney viscosity is too low, the tensile strength of vulcanized products is low and the product performance may not meet the requirements. Reasonable control of Mooney viscosity of recycled rubber products is beneficial to the processing technology of mixing, calendaring, extrusion, injection and molding vulcanization of recycled rubber.

The following refers to some main inspection parameters standards of qualified reclaim rubber product.
